ARE YOU INSURED?
Yes! I have personal DJ Public Liability Insurance (PLI) which covers you and your guests in case of accident or injury, up to £10,000,000 - I can provide certification to your venue or event coordinator upon request.
IS YOUR GEAR PAT TESTED?
Yes. Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is the examination of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure they are safe to use. All of my gear is PAT tested and documentation can be provided to your venue or event coordinator upon request.
WHAT'S YOUR DJ STYLE? DO YOU MIX AND SCRATCH?
I started my DJ career in clubs and bars so I mix and blend most tracks together. If you're worried about booking someone who can't mix and just stands behind the decks pressing play all night, that's not me! I'm an open format DJ, so I don't just play one style... I move around the genres all night, playing pop hits, dance anthems, indie classics etc. There's always something for everyone in my sets. Have a listen to my MUSIC to find out more...
As for scratching, I'm terrible at it so don't worry, you're safe!
DO YOU PLAY LOADS OF CHEESY DJ MUSIC?
No! Look, we've all been to weddings where the DJ was terrible... mumbling into the mic, telling bad jokes and playing the same boring songs we've heard a million times! Don't get me wrong, the best party playlists are diverse, and who doesn't love the odd cheesy classic played at just the right time!? But if you're looking for a DJ who just plays 'ABBA', 'Come On Eileen', 'YMCA' or 'Oops Upside Your Head' all night, I'm afraid it's time to look elsewhere. Look up Disco Dave on google, I'm sure he's got some availability!
WHAT DECKS DO YOU DJ WITH?
I play on a DJ controller, with a laptop that runs my DJ software and holds my music library. One thing I can't stand about DJs who use similar setups is that a lot of them have the laptop right in front of them and they spend the night hiding behind it. This is not me! I love to engage with my crowds so I set my laptop off to the side where it's out of the way and not creating a barrier between us!
DO YOU USE A MIC?
I do! I can host / compere / MC your event, including announcing key moments like speeches and first dance / cake cutting at weddings. But I'm not a cheesy DJ who makes dad jokes and talks all over your favourite songs... less is more!
WHERE CAN YOU TRAVEL TO?
Anywhere! I'm based on Merseyside, in the North West, but I've travelled as far south as Cornwall and as far north as Edinburgh! It doesn't matter where your event is, I'll get there! Packages for destination weddings are also available, head to the BOOK NOW page and make an enquiry.
HOW MANY GUESTS CAN YOU COVER?
The majority of the events I play tend to be anywhere from 50 up to 200 guests, and my PA equipment is more than adequate for small-to-medium spaces. For larger crowds and venues I will need to bring different PA equipment with me so please ensure you tell me exactly how many people are invited when you enquire!
DO YOU USE STROBE LIGHTING?
No. I have an all-in-one lighting rig which is enough to provide some moving and coloured atmospheric lighting for the dancefloor, but no, I don't use strobe lights.
DO YOU NEED ANY EXTRA EQUIPMENT AT THE VENUE?
Everything I need for sound, lighting and DJing, I'll bring with me.
I will need a table to setup all of my DJ gear on, so it would be a good idea to check with your event coordinator if this is available. Most venues have spare trestle tables which are perfect.
HOW EARLY CAN YOU SET UP?
I usually allow up to 1 hour prior to the event start time for setup and soundcheck. For venues I've not been to before, I'll usually get there a bit earlier to introduce myself, say hello, and give myself plenty of time to figure out the best layout for everything.
For full day wedding packages, I can be there beforehand to set up before anyone is due at the venue. I can also setup earlier on for evening events and then come back. Just let me know what you need are when you enquire!
DO YOU TAKE REQUESTS ON THE NIGHT?
Of course! It's only natural for people who are having a good time to request their favourite songs. But rest assured, I'll never let bad requests derail the party! Part of the process once you've booked me is our music consultation. Here, we can chat about all the music you love, but more importantly, set out some ground rules for genres or tracks you want to avoid. If you tell me you don't want Sweet Caroline at your wedding, I promise I won't play it... no matter how many people ask!
WHAT IF THE MUSIC STOPS?
Obviously with any live music performance, things can sometimes go wrong. Cables can be pulled out, laptops can crash, microphone batteries can die! All of these scenarios are INCREDIBLY RARE and over the many years I've played at clubs, bars, parties and weddings, I've dealt with pretty much any disastrous event you could think of. I carry spare cables, backup hardware and extra music sources, so that if anything does go wrong, I'll get us back up and running with barely any interruption!
WILL YOU PLAY 'ONE MORE TUNE!'
Very rarely have I ever finished a set and haven't had people chanting "ONE MORE TUNE!" I take it as a compliment that everybody's having fun and they don't want the night to end! Most venues music licenses will state that music has to be off by a certain time and it's important to respect that. I always give your guests plenty of notice that we're wrapping things up and I'll never just stop a song half way through and tell everyone it's time to go!
ARE YOU ABLE TO PLAY OUTDOORS?
Yes! I have played a number of events outdoors - garden parties, outdoor wedding ceremonies etc. This can be arranged but bear in mind, due to weather conditions on the day or for the time of year this may not be possible. Let me know what your plans are for outdoor events when you enquire!
CAN YOU PLAY SETS WITH A LIVE BAND OR OTHER MUSICIAN?
Yes! I've played plenty of events where I've filled in between band performances and then finished the night off with a DJ set. I also love DJing with live sax players and percussionists so just let me know on your enquiry!
